CTRM Aero-Composites Sdn Bhd (CTRM AC), a unit of Composite Technology Research Malaysia Sdn Bhd (CTRM), has won a contract worth over RM120mil to supply high-tech components to Goodrich Aerostructures Group for the V2500 aero engine.

CTRM chief executive Rosdi Mahmud said the contract signed recently had given a boost to CTRM AC.

“By entering into this agreement, the company has achieved another milestone in its burgeoning composites manufacturing capability, especially in the US market,†he said.

The V2500 engine is produced by IAC (International Aero Engines) whose shareholders are Rolls-Royce, Pratt & Whitney, Japanese Aero Engines Corp and MTU Aero Engines.

The engine has captured an average market share of 56% of the Airbus A320 family in the past eight years on its new standards for clean, quite, and efficient operation, and with a 64% share of the low-cost carrier market.

CTRM AC won the contract over two other parts manufactures for its ability to deliver, quality of work and competitive pricing.

The agreement will see CTRM supplying composite panels to Goodrich for an initial three-year period, with an extension option of an additional two years.

The principle shareholder of IAE, Rolls Royce's regional director for Malaysia, David Jones said: â€IAE sets extremely high standards across a variety of different measures for the production of all components for the V2500.

“These tests have been satisfied at every stage and thus critical components of the V2500 will now be produced for Goodrich by CTRM in Malaysia. “Based on the capabilities demonstrated by CTRM, the company will become the sole source for these components, commencing in June this year.â€
